Joycelyn A. Wilson, aka Dr. Joyce, is an assistant professor of educational foundations in the Department of Learning Sciences and Technologies at Virginia Tech’s School of Education and affiliate faculty in the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT). She is the founding director of the Four Four Beat Project, currently the first hip hop-based digital archive and pedagogies collaborative located at an institute of technology and school of education. Her research meets at the nexus of education, culture, technology, and qualitative methodologies. Her current interests are two-fold, focusing on the integration of Hip Hop Based Education (HipHopEd) with ethnography, as well as K-12 and post-secondary curriculum and instruction – particularly as it relates to the development of STEM, leadership, and social justice capacities of youth and youth influencers. She is currently under contract with Peter Lang for her first book.
