Spenser is a second year graduate student from Richmond, VA. He graduated with a BA in History from the College of William & Mary in 2012. His interests lie in American history, particularly with a focus on Early-Colonial America. Currently, he is researching the early American Southern Backcountry, utilizing material culture and folk-architecture based sources from the surrounding areas of southwestern Virginia, northwestern North Carolina and southern West Virginia. Next year, Spenser will begin work on an MA in Public Humanities and Material Culture at Virginia Tech. Spenser hopes to then go into a Ph.D program and eventually begin a career in higher education.
