As a professor of religious studies, I approach religion through the lenses of evolutionary history and cognitive science. This has led me to look particularly at social cognition and the behaviors it motivates. This work has pushed me into empirical work on test subjects using biometrics (HRV and EDA), videography, and computer modeling and simulation. It is part of everything I do on my liberal arts campus, but I am a bit of an outlier among my humanities colleagues. I am the most active voice encouraging that this change. Humanities needs better to avail itself of the tools resulting from the digital revolution.
