I'm an assistant professor of computer science at Virginia Tech and a member of the Center for Human-Computer Interaction there. My research investigates how social computing and crowdsourcing techniques can support creativity and discovery. One of my current projects explores how crowdsourcing can be used to help solve historical micro-mysteries, like identifying people and places in old photographs or mapping the modern-day location of an obscure place name. Previously, I was a postdoc in the HCI Institute at Carnegie Mellon, and I received my Ph.D. in Human-Centered Computing from Georgia Tech.
